Partner students with the Elba learning community to create excellence.

    August 29, 2019

I loved experiencing my first Elba Open House!  As the faculty and staff reported on Tuesday and Wednesday, the building started to come back to life.  We conducted a New Teacher Orientation on two days in August so that our new teachers feel prepared with the best instructional practices, as well as getting to know our program here.   We will maintain the tradition of having a talented and well-trained staff!  Once students arrive on Tuesday, we will back in full swing!

During the August Board of Education meeting, our members approved a new vision and mission for the district.  Their goal was to make our guiding principles more concise and focused on what we are doing today.  Elba Central School District Vision Statement: Partner students with the Elba learning community to create excellence.  Elba Central School District Mission Statement:  We will create a respectful, safe, and engaging environment, which will empower and inspire our students to be continuous learners who are challenged to succeed.  In addition, we agreed to finalize a new logo so that we can have a consistent brand.  As we look to continue our efforts to repair the building and campus, we believe that a consistent brand would create a consistent identity and support our collective efforts.

Instructionally, our faculty will be solidifying their curriculum and aligning their work to the changing next generation standards.  Ms. Bush and Mrs. Rosales were eager to be with their faculty and map out their plans for the year.  On Tuesdays, our staff will be meeting in departments and grade levels after school.  There will not be late busses during this time.  A strong academic program must start with a rigorous and relevant curriculum.  We look forward to seeing our staff engage students using more technology applications that will enhance their learning.

Student athletes have kicked off their fall seasons.  I am looking forward to our students competing and demonstrating their sportsmanship.  Last year, I was able to see our football team win a sectional and state championship just prior to starting in the district.  Seeing our students workout in the weight room in the summer and then transitioning this to the field is so exciting to me.  I also give our coaches a ton of credit for the work that they do inspire our students.

It was truly a pleasure to see so many families and students at our Open House.  Many people commented that the cafeteria looked great with the many upgrades that were overdue.  We expect our new tables to arrive during the first full week of school.  I am also pleased to announce that Elba was the winning district for the 2019 America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education grant!  Ms. Anderson applied for the grant so that we could begin having an online morning announcement that would be live.  Students from top to bottom would produce this morning show.   We wanted to meet the growing demand and trend of students producing videos and digital content.  They will present the check at the September 9th Board of Education meeting.

Overall, I cannot wait until we open school on Tuesday, and I am confident that the faculty, staff and administration are ready!  Bring on the kids!
