I wanted to congratulate the Class of 2020 one more time after an amazing graduation ceremony that was quickly moved to last night. It was so nice to see our graduates enjoy this special celebration. As you know it takes a village to raise our children and Elba is proof to that phrase. I truly appreciate the families, friends, and community members that came out to celebrate with us. A huge thank you to Mrs. Rosales and the entire staff that supported this first ever front lawn event. I would also like to thank the numerous community volunteers that helped with flowers, chair spacing, video recording, pictures, as well as our renovated patio area near the flag pole.
As we wrap up the year, I wanted to share that we served the Elba students 27,501 breakfasts and lunches as part of our food service program during the closure. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the generosity of the local farmers for their donations that not only helped our students, but the community welcomed and benefitted from having fresh produce available to them. I am grateful for the outstanding efforts of Mrs. Crnkovich, Mrs. Webster, Mrs. Walczak and Mrs. Boyce for their commitment to prepare all of the meals for our children during the extended closure.
Elba will continue to be a busy place for the summer. We have been meeting internally about our needs to support a safe opening in September. New York State Education Department has been conducting regional meetings with stakeholders and they are expected to provide guidance to districts on or just after July 13, 2020. I have recently read the reopening checklist for higher education and trying to be proactive with the expectations that will be set for us. We have tried to purchase cleaning and other necessary supplies that will be used throughout the next year. There will be more communicated to everyone when directions and guidance have been provided to us.
Our “Preservation Project” is making great gains. Our asbestos removal will finish early next week. They are currently working on the plumbing for the bathrooms in the K-4 wing. Every classroom will have new floors, windows and be repainted when the project is completed. In addition, we will have a new roof over one third of our building. There are many other renovations being done and we look forward to hosting our open house in fall to show off these well needed renovations.
I hope everyone has a wonderful July 4th! We will continue to be a team to so that our students’ safety will be at the forefront of our efforts. It is an honor to lead such an amazing district through these difficult times. Please feel free to call me at 757-9967 Ext 1034 or email email@example.com if you ever have questions, concerns or want to acknowledge one of our talented staff members.
